See this shit right here? This is why I love One Piece and Chopper. Once Chopper gets accepted by a crew, he finally gets a taste of what acceptance and endearment means after being alive for so long and never having that feeling from more than two people, one who he ends up watching die.
He has trust issues and fears and it isn’t just brushed under the rug like being part of something somehow made those fears disappear. They don’t just go away after his introduction arc and he gets to be part of the crew.
He still fears being uncared for, he still forgets that people worry for him and his safety, he has lived so long without this immense level of love and comfort from so many people.
He actually feels like it is a burden to depend on people because he fears if he isn’t useful they’ll outgrow him. He is motivated by a long history of abandonment that SLOWLY THROUGHOUT THE SERIES HE LEARNS THAT THAT ISN’T HOW HE HAS TO FEEL. THE CREW LOVES HIM AND CARES FOR HIM.
I MEAN YES HE WANTS THEM TO DEPEND ON HIM BECAUSE HE LOVES THEM AND WANTS TO PROTECT THEM AS WELL. BUT DON’T TELL ME SOME OF THAT DESIRE ISN’T FROM HIS DEEP FEARS OF ABANDONMENT. AT LEAST IN THE BEGINNING. AND WATCHING HIM GROW AND HIS CHARACTER DEVELOP IS LIKE 1923884% OF THE REASON I LOVE THIS SHOW.
GOOD CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT ACROSS THE BOARD.
i have……a lot of feeling..s………….
